Sewing Pattern - Sewing Pattern - 14th and 15th Century Easy Medieval Front-Opening Buttoned or Laced Kirtle Gown Patternn. Sizes 4-24 included in this one package. This pattern allows you to create two of the most popular style of medieval gowns from the 14th and 15th centuries. Called the "Kirtle", this easy-fitting gown was worn by working women and nobility alike. For working women, the gown was usually laced in front and worn over a chemise (shown here with the AY10, which is sold separately). Often it was held in at the waist with an apron or tucked up into a belt. This style is seen in the Duc De Berry's Tres Riches Heures. For wealthier people and nobility, the front was buttoned with many buttons, indicating their wealth. Sometimes the two sides of the front and back were different, or "Parti-colored", indicating heraldic colors or designs. For both styles, the sleeves ended at the elbow, the neckline was scooped. Great for Renaissance Faires, Elizabethan, Medieval, Stuart or English Civil War looks.
